Description:
Several examples of fossil brachiopods (Rhynconella & Terebratula). From Sewerby and Danes Dyke, Flamborough. Brachiopods (a Cretaceous period cretaure, although some still exist today) had two shells, with one side larger than the other. In shape they resemble Roman oil lamps and have a hole at one end through which the creature's stalk protruded. "Winged" brachiopod shells are also known.
