Title: Roxy cinema
Item Name: Music and Entertainment

Description:

Roxy Cinema manager Jim Thompson (1905-1995) employed two young riders, Marilyn Wilkinson and Joyce Smith, to ride around the town on their horses to publicise the film Annie Get Your Gun. The Roxy Cinema did not have films when they first came out but often a year or two after their release. As a result of this ingeneous publicity had to be used to persuade people to see films that they had already seen before, or had missed the first time around. Jim Thompson's family can be seen on the right of the rider with a rifle. The lady holding the baby is Jim's wife Charlotte, and the baby is their youngest child Marilyn. The boy to Charlotte's immediate right is son John, and in front of her wearing a balaclava is son Alan.
