Title: Anglo-Saxon coffin

Description:

Portion of an oak coffin lid, with the two sides, ends and the base. Found during excavations at Beverley Minster by York Archaeological Trust, in December 2003. The coffin was fixed together with pegs - peg holes and the pegs themselves (made of willow) are preserved in some cases. Dendrochronology indicates a date between 992 and 1018AD - probably very shortly after 992. A willow wand, found in another burial in the same excavation is also included under this record.
