Cast lead pilgrim's ampulla (hold water flask), found between Great Hatfield and Little Hatfield, East Yorkshire. The front face decorated with a scallop shell pattern, the back with concentric circles. The neck is crushed and folded over. This design originated at the shrine of St. James of Compostella in Spain, but was later produced at Canterbury and other religious sites in England. Part of a collection of metal detecting items found by Steven Swales in the early 1990's.
