Souvenir plaque commemorating the marriage of Princess May and HRH the Duke of York in 1893. Mary (also known as May) of Teck, in Wurttemberg, was first engaged to the prince Eddy (the Duke of Clarence, but when he died suddenly, she married his brother George (who later became King George V). Shield above bearing lettering - 'HRY The Duke of York married Princess May, July 6th 1893.' Portraits of the couple beneath in two roudnels, with a strip at the bottom of the plaque with motto 'England's Hope.' Part of metal detecting collection belonging to the late Terry Britten.
