Description:
Three maquettes of a sculpture that was commissioned to stand in Paradise Square, part of a 1980s Beverley housing project. Jaqueline Stieger was born in 1936 and studied at Edinburgh College of Art 1952-58. She received a Royal Scottish Academy Award in 1957. In 1966 she married the late Alfred Gruber and moved to Switzerland and didn't return to England until 1969. She was awarded the Freedom of the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths and the Freedom of the City of London in 1985. In 1986 she became a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. Stieger's work has deep roots touching on and drawing fellow feeling from sculpture, jewellery ans seals made thousands of years ago in Sumaria, Egypt and Babylon.
