Item Name: Sculpture
Maker: James Pradier (1790-1852)

Description:

This item is in the Burton Constable Hall collections and is included on this database by kind permission of the Burton Constable Foundation. James Pradier was a Swiss-born French sculptor, painter and composer. Although his work often demonstrates an affinity with the Neoclassical movement, his statuettes have a decided Romantic flavour. The Woman Putting on a Stocking is typical of Pradier's exploration of the ‘voyeuristic genre’ with its sensuous and erotic charge. Located in the Green Dressing Room.
