This item is in the Burton Constable Hall collections and is included on this database by kind permission of the Burton Constable Foundation. This bas-relief is almost certainly a portrait of Prince Charles Edward Stuart (1720-88). Known as the Young Pretender or Bonnie Prince Charlie, Prince Charles Edward Stuart made an unsuccessful attempt to capture the British throne in 1745 and was defeated at the Battle of Culloden. Located in the Staircase Hall. Possibly Italian or French school.
