Coastguard safety helmet, probably 19th century, made of wicker work, with neck and face protection. Partly padded with leather on inside, on forehead and around sides. Similar examples are known from Scotland, where they were used for cliff rescues and they may also have been used by miners in mines on Dartmoor.
