A King Helmet shell (Cassis Tuberosa), from the Caribbean. Pink with yellow tones on the underside. Part of the Pamplin shell collection. Helmet shells take their name from their supposed resemblance to the helmets of Roman gladiators. The bull-mouthed variety are mainly found off the coast of East Africa and have traditionally been used to make cameo brooches.
