Title: Medieval document seal matrix

Description:

Copper alloy seal matrix, probably dating to the 14th century, found in the donor's garden at Cottingham in 1979. The circular base has a design showing the Virgin and child beneath a triple arched canopy with side niches - with traces of architectural decoration. Apparently Lombardic lettering - not decipherable.The hexagonal fluted column has a double ridge above, then an open trefoil and finally a small circular pierced loop at the end.
