Title: Lead sack seal
Item Name: Transport

Description:

Lead sack/bag seal. With a symbol of three crossed keys on one side, which may imply this seal was used on goods imported from Leiden in Holland (though usually this would only be 2 keys). Another suggestion is that this relates to the city of York. The reverse has only faint traces of lettering and no other design. Such seals were applied as part of the customs process when exporting goods. Part of metal detecting collection belonging to the late Terry Britten.
