Description:

The billy-boy Masterman off Hull light-vessel and Spurn lighthouse. Signed bottom left. Master's name almost invisible, but appears to be Wheldrake. The ship is flying the red ensign. Masterman was lost off Whitton Ness in 1910 when she dragged her anchor, grounded on the sands and was lost when overwhelmed by the spring tide. The master's wife and children were drowned. The billy-boy was a ketch-rigged cargo vessel, used on the Ouse and the Humber.
