Occupation: artist
Birth Date: 1815
Death Date: 1873
Bio:
Second son of Luke Clennell (1781-1840), a painter and engraver. 55 or so drawings in the Beverley Art Gallery collection were previously assigned to Luke Clennell (3 or 4 of them are actually signed CLENNELL), but since he went insane in 1831, it seems unlikely that he could have produced them (they are believed to date to the 1830's on the basis of costume and architectural details). An album of views of Liverpool, dated 1844 and ascribed to Charles Warren Clennell, was sold by Sotheby's on 22/11/1979. An obituary of Luke Clennell in The Art Union records that one of his sons was an artist, resident in Newcastle. If CW Clennell did produce the works in the BAG collection, the circumstances of his visit to Beverley are unknown.
