Can I put a Christmas tree in my brown bin?

Real Christmas trees without decorations can be placed next to brown bins for collection during January. If unsure of collection days, please check the online bin collection calendar.

Please note: If the tree is above 5ft (1.5 metres) please can it be cut to below this size to enable it to fit into the collection vehicle.

How can I recycle a Christmas tree?

Real Christmas trees (without decorations) can be taken to any of the 10 HWRS and put in the greenwaste bin for composting.  Find your local household waste recycling site.

Trees will also be collected as part of the brown bin collections during January.  Please place trees at the side of the bin. If unsure of your collection day, please check the online bin collection calendar.

Can I put wrapping paper in my blue bin?

Yes, wrapping paper can be put in the blue bin. Please remove sticky tape, ribbons and bows.

Can I put greetings cards in my blue bin?

Yes, greetings cards including those with glitter and embellishments can be put in the blue bin.

Can I put Christmas cards and wrapping paper in the paper bank at the household waste recycling site (HWRS)?

No, the paper in the paper banks at the household waste recycling sites goes direct to a paper mill meaning no cards or wrapping paper are acceptable.

Please place all cards and wrapping paper in your blue bin which is sent to a recycling plant where all material is separated and sorted into different grades before being sent for recycling.  If unsure of your collection day, please check the online bin collection calendar
