What is the East Riding Local Plan Options consultation?

The East Riding Local Plan review Options Document is the first stage in reviewing the Local Plan that was adopted in 2016. A series of options and questions are presented in the document, responses to which will help shape a revised Draft Local Plan alongside updated evidence work and sustainability appraisal.

A Draft Site Assessment Methodology has also been published for consultation. Further information is provided in the ‘How will sites be assessed?’ section below.

The Council is also undertaking a ‘call for sites’ for the duration of the consultation period. Further information is provided in the ‘What is a call for sites?’ section below.

A number of drop-in sessions have been arranged to give the public an opportunity to view the consultation documents and speak to a planning officer about the issues. Details of these events are set out below:

Why is the Local Plan being reviewed?

The council are required to undertake an assessment to determine if a review of the Local Plan is needed, within five years of adoption. Given recent changes in the new National Planning Policy Framework and issues identified in the inspector’s report on the Local Plan examination, a review is required at this stage. Further detail is provided in Chapter 2 of the above Options Document.

What is a call for sites?

A call for sites is an opportunity to submit land to the Council for consideration. This process helps to identify potential sites that should be considered through the Local Plan review for inclusion in an updated Local Plan.

How can I submit land for consideration in the Local Plan?

To submit land to the Council for consideration in the Local Plan review, please complete the land submission form below (also available in Appendix B of the Options Document) and return to us by:

How will sites be assessed?

The Draft Site Assessment Methodology sets out the process the council will follow to assess and compare the suitability of potential development sites submitted to us. The methodology considers a wide range of social, environmental and economic factors such as flood risk, infrastructure, biodiversity, ownership and character to assess whether a site is sustainable and deliverable.
