Policies map

Explains what the policies map is.

What is the policies map?

The policies map shows all the areas in the East Riding where different policies as part of the new East Riding Local Plan apply. For example, it shows areas allocated for new development (e.g. housing), where important landscape areas are, and the boundaries of conservation areas.

The policies map is divided into a number of inset maps for each settlement, as well as a Grid Map covering the more rural parts of the East Riding. All of the maps are available to view in the table below. A key and index map is also available:

How has the policies map been prepared?

The policies map has reflected the various drafts of the Strategy Document and Allocations Document. As such, the Policies Map was prepared to reflect three stages of the Local Plan process:

  • Draft Policies Map (2013) - to reflect the Draft Strategy Document and Draft Allocations Document
  • Proposed Submission Policies Map (2014) - to reflect the Proposed Submission Strategy Document and Proposed Submission Allocations Document
  • Proposed Modifications Policies Map (2015) - to reflect the modifications identified to the Proposed Submission Strategy and Allocations Documents.

Copies of the different drafts are set out below:

Proposed Submission Policies Map (2014)

The Proposed Submission Policies Map was the version of the Policies Map which accompanied the  Proposed Submission Allocations and  Strategy Documents.

Following consultation on the Proposed Submission Allocations and Strategy Documents (with accompanying Policies Map), the council submitted them to the Secretary of State for independent examination by a Planning Inspector.

Please see the examination in public information page for more details.

The table below details the Policies Map for each settlement.

You can find maps for an individual settlement using the 'Keywords' search.

For areas outside of a settlement, please use the grid maps (a grid index map is provided below) A key to all of the maps is also provided.

Draft Policies Map

The Draft Policies Map was a series of maps prepared for consultation alongside the  Draft Strategy Document and the  Draft Allocations Document. They showed where some of the policies in the Draft Strategy Document will be implemented (e.g. key open areas, conservation areas, development limits) and those sites which were proposed for development as set out in the Draft Allocations Document.

For each of the site allocations shown on the Draft Policies Map, a policy guiding the development of that site was set out in the  Draft Allocations Document. For the purposes of the Draft Local Plan consultation, the maps also showed sites which were rejected and the reasons for their rejection are set out in  Draft Allocations Document.

The table below details the Draft Policies Map for each settlement. Please also refer to the key set out below:Key to Draft Policies Map (pdf 129kb opens in new window)

Following the printing of the maps, a number of errata were identified prior to consultation. These are listed in the document below:Draft Policies Map errata (pdf 50kb opens in new window)

Please note that the maps in the table below have been amended to rectify the errors identified in the errata.

Draft Policies Map updates

Prior to the publication of the Proposed Submission Policies Map, a number of changes were proposed to the sites included within the Draft Allocations Document. These were set out in the Proposed Major Changes consultation document. The Proposed Major Changes also included new development limits for Carnaby and Bempton.

For more details on the changes please visit the Proposed major changes page.
