Visitor Permit

Information about parking permits for visitors to a residency, including who can purchase a visitor permit, where these are valid, and how to purchase permits.

What is a Visitor Permit?

Visitor Permits are issued by residents living within a Controlled Parking Zone, or on a street that is covered by a Resident Permit Scheme, to their visitors. Visitor Permits can only be purchased by the resident, and cannot be purchased by the visitor themselves.

Visitor Permits offer vehicles an exemption from a particular parking restriction nearby to the residency they are visiting; this is usually an exemption from a limited waiting restriction (a time restriction), however there are also a small number of streets within the East Riding that are reserved for Resident Permit holders only, where Visitor Permits are also valid.

In the East Riding, Blue Badge holders are not required to obtain a Visitor Permit, as displaying a valid Blue Badge in a vehicle offers the same exemptions as a Visitor Permit.

Am I entitled to purchase Visitor Permits?

Any resident who has a valid Resident Permit or valid Resident Registration Card can purchase Visitor Permits.

How much do Visitor Permits cost?

Visitor Permits are purchased in bundles of 35 individual permits, at a cost of £5.00 per bundle. Each individual permit is valid for one day, from the start time up until 10am the following day.

Where can my visitors park with Visitor Permits?

Visitor Permits can be used to park in any parking place within the particular Controlled Parking Zone or Resident Permit Scheme location where you live where the adjacent signage states ‘Resident Permit holders’. Please see an example of signage below. In Bridlington, the sign also specifies either Zone ‘A’ or Zone ‘B’, such as the in the right photograph.

Controlled Parking Zones cover large areas, and Visitor Permits are valid in any qualifying parking bay within the whole zone, whereas Resident Permit Schemes only cover an individual street.

Parking signs

From time to time, the council may need to suspend the use of a number of parking places for reasons such as to enable essential maintenance works to take place. Notices displayed on-street will advise motorists of the dates and times of the suspension – Visitor Permits will not be valid in any affected parking places during these times, therefore permit holders should make alternative parking arrangements.
