East Riding of Yorkshire Council sit on the Yorkshire and Humber Climate Commission, an independent advisory body made up of organisations and groups in the region, set up to support ambitious climate actions across the Yorkshire and Humber. The Commission has four aims:
- to foster climate resilience and adaptation to climate risks and impacts.
- to support rapid progress towards net zero carbon emissions.
- to encourage a just and inclusive transition that helps reduce inequalities and leaves no-one and nowhere behind.
- to promote climate actions that also protect and restore nature and biodiversity.
In November 2021, the Commission launched the Yorkshire and Humber Climate Action Plan. This is intended to be a document that will inform and guide climate actions across the region in the years to come.
