Ways to pay your council tax

There are many ways to pay you council tax. Direct Debit is the easiest and most convenient way to pay, as it guarantees you don’t miss a payment, but not everyone can pay that way.

Council tax is usually payable on the 1st, 5th, 15th or 25th of each month. You can easily check when you are due to pay, and how, much by registering to manage your account online.

Pay your council tax online

You can make a council tax payment, at any time, using our secure online payment option:

Please note: you must include your full 8-digit council tax account number as your reference. This is shown at the top of your council tax bill. If you do not have your bill, you can request a copy of your bill by emailing council.tax@eastriding.gov.uk

Internet banking

You can also pay using your internet banking. You may find it easier to set up a regular standing order with your bank, so you don’t forget or miss a payment. To pay your council tax using your internet banking, please use the following details:

  • Sort code: 60 02 23
  • Account number: 99105837.

Telephone

You can call our 24-hour automated payment line on 0300 330 15 15 and pay by:

  • debit card - Visa Debit, Maestro, Solo, Visa Electron or Delta
  • credit card - Visa or Mastercard.

Post Offices and Payzone

You can pay your bill, free of charge, at any outlet displaying the Post Office or Payzone sign. Many outlets accept cards, cash, and cheque payments. You will need to take your barcoded bill with you. If you do not have your bill, you can request a copy by emailing us:

You should allow 4 working days for the payment to reach your account and remember to keep your receipt as proof that you have paid.

Please note:

Payzone and Post Office Counters allows you to make payments up to the value of £999. If your bill is more than £999, you will need to make more than one payment.

PayPoint

If you are paying in cash you can pay your bill, free of charge, at any outlet displaying the PayPoint sign. Many PayPoint outlets also take cards and contactless payments. You will need to take your barcoded bill with you. If you do not have your bill, you can request a copy by emailing us:

PayPoint outlets are normally found in places such as shops, garages, and some post offices. Outlets are recognised by a logo clearly displayed on the front of the premises:

Please note:

PayPoint allows you to make payments up to the value of £200. If your bill is more than £200, you will need to make more than one payment.
