If you need extra help with housing costs or if you are having trouble paying your rent, you might be able to get extra money. This is called a Discretionary Housing Payment.

    Priority debts and non-priority debts

    • secured loans
    • gas, electricity, and council tax
    • court fines.

Non-priority debts are less important and include things like:

    • credit card or store card debts
    • unsecured loans including payday loans
    • unpaid water bills - your supplier can’t cut off your water supply
    • money you owe to family and friends.
