Apply for a school place online

If your child is due to start school for the first time, moving from infants to juniors, or starting secondary school in the East Riding, you can apply for their place using the secure online Citizen Portal:

Using the Citizen Portal

Creating an account

If you have not used the online Citizen Portal for a school application before, you’ll need to create an account and verify your email address from a link that will be sent to you.

Accessing the Citizen Portal

If you are having difficulties accessing the Citizen Portal to complete your application, we recommend:

• using a different internet browser
• making sure that you access the form through the blue button link above - you cannot apply for a school place through your usual council account.

Completing the application form

The form asks for information such as:

• your contact details
• which school(s) you would like your child to attend - you can select up to three preferences
• whether you have parental responsibility
• if you have another child at one of your preferred schools.

After completing your application, you can choose how you’d like to receive your child’s school place offer. We recommend selecting email, as it’s the quickest way to find out which school your child has been allocated on national offer day.

After you have submitted your application

After you submit your form, you will receive an email to confirm the application has been submitted. This will acknowledge that we have received your application, and confirm the school preferences that you listed.

Making changes to your application

If you want to change your school place preferences, you can use the Citizen Portal to update your application, as long as you do so before the closing date. Please remember to re-submit your application after making any changes.
