4.School admissions arrangements for 2026-27

    The East Riding has been selected to take part in a DfE trial of a new service for parents and carers with a child starting secondary school in the autumn.

    Introduction

    Between 9 October and 27 November, the council consulted on the admission arrangements for community and voluntary-controlled schools for the 2026-27 school year.

    At the end of the consultation, the council’s cabinet was asked to formally determine these arrangements in January 2025.

    Summary of changes

    The majority of the 2026-27 arrangements (which are currently in draft form) are the same as previous years. However, there are also some more significant changes, as shown below. Detailed information can be also found in the ‘Summary of Key Changes’ and other documents.

    Please note:

    The Fair Access Protocol is included with the other documents here, but it only takes effect once most schools in East Riding agree to it. This protocol itself is reviewed separately from the council’s yearly admission arrangements.

    Please note:

    Following approval from the Office of Schools Adjudicator on 7 August 2026, the PAN for Year 12 at Longcroft School and Sixth Form College has been reduced to 0, to accommodate a temporary pause in recruitment to the sixth form.

    Changes to Published Admission Numbers (PANS)

    Changes to the Published Admission Numbers (PANs) were proposed by the council or the governing bodies of community and voluntary-controlled schools for the following seven schools:

    • Bridlington School – PAN decreased from 200 to 180 for year 7
    • Brough Primary School – PAN decreased from 60 to 45 for reception
    • Bugthorpe CE VC Primary School – PAN increased from 13 to 15 for reception
    • Burlington Infant School – PAN decreased from 80 to 60 for reception
    • Driffield CE VC Infant School – PAN decreased from 90 to 60 for reception
    • Hilderthorpe Primary School – PAN decreased from 60 to 45 for reception
    • Welton Primary School – PAN decreased from 60 to 30 for reception
