How else can I find out if my child's school/nursery is closed?

There are a few different ways of finding out about school closures. Any information given to the local authority by schools is put on the website.

Most schools put information about any closures or any other changes on their own website and you can link directly to the schools' websites through the School and Nursery Finder.

Unplanned closures due to severe weather are broadcast on the following local radio stations:

If you cannot find any information about your child's school/nursery then you should contact them directly. Telephone numbers are available from the East Riding School and Nursery Finder.

How do school travel services operate during periods of bad weather?

Buses and taxis will always attempt to operate unless we have been told that a school/college or adult day centre is closed for the day.

If in attempting a run, the driver feels that to operate a portion of the route would be dangerous then the driver will be unable to operate that portion of the route. Safety of everyone on board a vehicle is paramount, and although in some cases a car may be able to access a road, a bus may not.

Where a driver is unable to operate a portion of the route, this will also apply for the return journey in the afternoon, unless things significantly improve and we are able to inform the school.
