East Riding Intermediate String Ensemble (ERISE)

The repertoire played by the members of this ensemble is of a more challenging standard than that of the string training orchestra. With a greater emphasis on the technical and stylistic variety of musical genres, the ensemble aims to further develop ensemble skills and provide an increased challenge for the players.

The entry requirement is grade three or equivalent. There are a number of performance opportunities for members throughout the year.

What opportunities are there for pupils to play in a band or orchestra?

The Schools' Music Service provides a number of opportunities for young musicians under the age of 19 residing in the East Riding of Yorkshire to play in a variety of ensembles with players of similar abilities.

What are the requirements for membership?

Members should be in full time education and be recommended by their teacher as being of a suitable standard.

An exam need not necessarily have been taken. Places in some ensembles may be limited, especially for more popular instruments and candidates may be asked to join a waiting list or undertake a short audition.

When can my son/daughter apply to join an ensemble?

New members are welcomed twice a year in September and January/February and it is advisable that applications are in before these dates. Where specified entry grades are for The Associated Board or its equivalent.

When do the ensembles perform?

Concerts are given at various venues across the county both in formal concert settings and in the open air.

2016/17 will see the east riding ensembles performing in venues such as Beverley Minster, the Spa, Bridlington and at the annual open air concert at Wassand Hall.
