Temporary closure of public rights of way (PROW)

From time to time some of the public rights of way have to be closed to enable planned engineering or other works to take place. For safety reasons it is not always possible to keep the route open. In the vast majority of cases there will be an alternative route that will signed at the point the route is closed.

The council does encourage applicants to try and keep disruption to the public rights of way network to a minimum, and recognise the importance of routes that are well used and enjoyed by the public. Temporary closures only impact on a handful of routes at any one time, so you can still have confidence that most routes will be open for you to use, and even those that are closed, are likely to have an alternative.
