Day care and activities for adults and older people

Information on what daytime activities are available for adults and older people, your nearest day centre, whether you need your own transport and how to pay for, and access, these activities.

Does the council provide day care centres for adults?

Yes - we have six day centres offering support for adults. You can find your nearest day care centre by visiting the adult day care centre finder

Support at the centres is available to:

  • older people with complex needs
  • people who have a learning disability
  • people who have a physical disability
  • people with a mental health need.

The services offer the opportunity for people to:

  • meet with others
  • participate in a range of social and leisure activities
  • receive personal care.

The centres also provide the opportunity for carers to take a break from their caring tasks. More information for carers is available in the carers section

When are the day care centres open?

Services in the day centres are delivered Monday to Friday.

Some centres deliver activities on evenings. For more information on out of hours activities, please contact the day centre. Contact details for each centre are available in the day care centre finder.

Services are closed on bank holidays.

Do I have to provide my own transport to get to a day centre?

This depends upon your individual circumstances.

If you need help getting to the day centre, we will have to conduct an assessment of your needs to decide if you are eligible for support. You can find more information on this assessment on the access to social care page.

You can choose to pay for your own transport without the involvement of adult social care.

Do I have to pay for day care/activities?

This depends upon your individual circumstances.

We will need to carry out an assessment of your needs and your financial situation to determine if you are eligible for support from the council. Read more on how to access services on the access to social care page.

If you are eligible for support, you may be allocated a personal budget. If day care services and activities are identified as needs in your Support Plan, you can use your budget to pay for council-run and private services.

You can choose to pay for day care services and activities yourself without the involvement of adult social care.

Where can I find activities in my local area?

The Local-Links directory contains information on activities, organisations and support groups around the East Riding of Yorkshire.
