    Domestic abuse awareness month

To help raise awareness of domestic abuse in the East Riding we run various events throughout October each year. These events include campaign promotions, webinars, and running information stands across the region.

The webinars are open to anyone living or working in the East Riding and anyone can visit us at our information stands.

    Supporting friends and family 2026

The theme for this year's domestic abuse awareness month is “Supporting friends and family”. It focuses on the vital role each of us can play in recognising abuse and helping those affected feel seen, heard, and supported.

For many people experiencing abuse, reaching out can feel overwhelming. Friends, relatives, neighbours, and colleagues can make a crucial difference in helping and supporting someone. You may be the first person someone confides in, or the person who notices that something doesn’t seem right.

Advice on how you might be able to help someone in possible crisis is available on our friend or family member page.

    Pets and coercive control

To raise awareness of domestic abuse and how pets are used to coercively control victims, we are running a joint project with the RSPCA Hull and ER branch, aimed at people working in the pet industry.

As part of this project we are holding two free Microsoft Teams webinars:

Wednesday, 14 October, at 7:30 pm

Wednesday, 21 October, at 1:30 pm

    Both webinars include:

    • the definition of domestic abuse and coercive control
    • the links between domestic abuse and animal abuse
    • red flags pet professionals might notice
    • what pet professionals can do
    • support available for victims and their pets in East Yorkshire.

There will be opportunity for questions and answers at the end of each webinar.
