    A Safer East Riding

The "A Safer East Riding" survey focused on understanding safety concerns in the East Riding, particularly for young people and women. Here are some key findings:

    • Young people's safety
Many young respondents expressed that feeling safe at home involves locked doors, privacy, and being able to be themselves. When out and about, safety meant being with friends or family, having good street lighting, and not worrying about harassment or harm.

    • Concerns at night
A significant number of respondents felt safe during the day but unsafe at night, citing factors like reduced visibility, fewer people around, and the presence of alcohol and drugs.

    • Violence against women and girls (VAWG)
The survey highlighted the prevalence of harassment and abuse, with over 50% of respondents stating that no one intervened during incidents. This underscores the need for community bystander training.
