3G football pitch opens at East Riding Leisure Haltemprice

Thursday, 2 July 2026

A new full-size 3G football pitch at East Riding Leisure Haltemprice has now been successfully completed and opened to the public.

The project was made possible thanks to £2.1m funding from commuted sums investment, including £975k from the Premier League, The FA and the Government’s Football Foundation and further contributions from East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

With a total cost exceeding £2m, this ambitious scheme has delivered a state-of-the-art facility that will provide significant long-term benefits for the local community and support increased access to and participation in football across the area.

The official opening of the pitch took place on Monday, 29 June and was attended by East Riding of Yorkshire Council, East Riding County Football Association, Football Foundation, representatives from Hessle Sporting Football Club, Hessle Rangers Football Club, Priory Football Club and the Walking Football Team from Hessle Sporting.

Three local football clubs Hessle Sporting, Hessle Rangers and Priory have partnered with the council and have now secured regular usage slots on the pitch, with organised sessions commencing in June.

The Local Football Facilities Plan previously identified a shortfall of 3G Football Turf Pitches (FTPs) in the Haltemprice area, driven by high demand from affiliated grassroots clubs. This new facility responds directly to that identified need, supporting the recently developed Playing Pitch Strategy as well as providing grassroots support and serving as a dedicated girls’ football hub, helping the continued growth of the women’s and girls’ game locally.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council has led the project, which has delivered a full-size floodlit 3G Football Turf Pitch, alongside additional car parking and a new changing facility at East Riding Leisure Haltemprice.

The site is already well used by both affiliated and recreational football, and the new pitch will further enhance provision, including supporting the introduction of new opportunities such as disability football.

Councillor Nick Coultish, cabinet member for culture, tourism and leisure at East Riding of Yorkshire Council said: ‘’We are delighted to see the completion of this fantastic new 3G pitch at East Riding Leisure Haltemprice. It represents a significant investment in local sport and will provide a high-quality facility for players of all ages and abilities.

“As a weather-resilient surface, the 3G pitch will ensure year-round access and reduce disruption caused by poor ground conditions. This will make a real difference to grassroots football in the area, helping more people to stay active and enjoy the game.”

Robert Sullivan, Chief Executive of the Football Foundation, added: “The Football Foundation is working closely with our partners, the Premier League, The FA and Government, to transform the quality of grassroots facilities in England by delivering projects like this across the country.

“Good quality playing facilities have a transformative impact on physical and mental health and play an important role in bringing people together and strengthening local communities. We’re delighted that the local community in East Riding will now be able to enjoy all these benefits thanks to the new facilities at East Riding Leisure Haltemprice.”
