A novel way to tie the knot: Celebrations at The Old Library

Friday, 6 June 2025

The Old Library at the Champney Treasure House has a new purpose as it now welcomes couples to celebrate their love for each other.

The Old Library, which was most recently used as a reference library, has now been decorated to give a historic and beautiful ceremony room, right in the heart of Beverley.

The Old Library is suitable for legal marriage and civil partnership ceremonies. For couples looking for a non-legal celebration of their union, or a ceremony to recommit to each other, there are also commitment and renewal of vows ceremonies.

Naming ceremonies are also available and offer the chance for a family to celebrate the birth of a newborn in a non-religious setting.

Whichever ceremony is chosen, visitors will have the opportunity to step into a venue where tradition meets modern elegance and create unforgettable memories in the new ceremony space within the Champney Treasure House, Beverley.

The newly-renovated Old Library, located on the ground floor, comfortably seats up to 50 guests and celebrations can begin with friends and family at the private entrance on Champney Road. The ceremony room honours its past as a public library, as well as showcasing items celebrating local history.

Ceremonies can be customised with music and visual content, plus there is the option to live stream special moments to loved ones who can't be there in person, or record ceremonies to relive the experience.

Post ceremony celebrations extend into an exclusive area in the beautifully revamped Champney Gardens.

Councillor Nick Coultish, cabinet member for culture, leisure and tourism at East Riding of Yorkshire Council said: "The Old Library at Champney Treasure House is the perfect place to create unforgettable memories.

‘’This historic venue, now beautifully renovated, offers a unique blend of tradition and modern charm, making it an ideal setting for celebrating life's special moments.’’
