Adult Social Care to begin working partnership with the Social Care Institute of Excellence (SCIE)

Tuesday, 12 November 2024

The adult social care team at East Riding of Yorkshire Council have been successful in their bid to begin a working partnership with the Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE).

SCIE is a national charity and improvement agency that works with adult, family and children’s services to develop, implement and share knowledge about best practice across social care, social work and beyond.

This is an exciting opportunity for the adult social care service to work closely with an esteemed organisation to develop a coproduced framework that is unique to the East Riding.

A coproduced framework will ensure that the voice of the people is at the centre of everything adult social care do. The East Riding community will be able to have their say in shaping strategies and policies, influencing the way services are delivered.

SCIE will be working with a team of council staff within adult services, along with speaking to residents and external colleagues to test the council’s approach to working with people. SCIE will then create and develop the co-production framework based on their findings.

SCIE will also enable the council to continue to develop individual care planning for residents, meaning that the care people receive will be more personalised and tailored to the person’s needs.

Jessica Cross, Director of Locality, Wellbeing and Safeguarding at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: ‘’The Directorate Leadership team are really pleased about our partnership with SCIE as it gives the service the opportunity to test ourselves and see where we are on our co-production journey and how we can continue to develop our approach even further.

‘’Working with a national organisation such as SCIE is a privilege and something that will enhance us strategically and operationally.’’

The working partnership will begin now and continue for several months. Between January and March SCIE will be providing their feedback and making recommendations for the growth of the council’s coproduced approach to adult social care.

Councillor Johnathan Owen, East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s cabinet member for adults, health and care, said: ‘’The aim of this partnership is to involve and empower our community, giving them the opportunity to influence service delivery and the care that they receive.

‘’We want our adult social care strategy to be reflective of our community and embody the changes which they wish to see.

‘’The upcoming, co-produced framework will be fundamental in developing our service moving forward, we are looking forward to hearing people’s thoughts and implementing positive change.’’
