Bridlington man fined for dumping waste on a footpath

Wednesday, 30 September 2026

A man from Bridlington has been prosecuted and ordered to pay £760 after he dumped waste on a footpath in the town.

Jack Pasmore of Ferndale Terrace, Bridlington, pleaded guilty to abandoning waste in nearby Nelson Street when he appeared at Beverley Magistrates' Court on Monday 21 September.

Pasmore was fined £400 and was ordered to pay £200 costs and a victim surcharge of £160.

The court heard streetscene enforcement officers found bags of household waste in a cardboard box left on the path in Nelson Street on 4 March this year.

Pasmore admitted putting the waste out next to a wheelie bin, wrongly believing it would be collected along with the contents of the bin.

He said he the forgot about the rubbish and failed to check if it had been removed.

Residents are responsible for disposing of their own waste properly and legally inside household wheelie bins provided or by taking larger items of waste to their local household waste recycling site.

Carl Skelton, director of streetscene services at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “Our bin collection teams can't take any waste placed next to wheelie bins, residents should know that and always put rubbish inside their bins.

"If waste is left on the street, like this, we will take action. Abandoning waste is never acceptable."

Anyone caught fly-tipping in the East Riding could be ordered to pay a fixed penalty of up to £1,000 or the case could be taken to court, where they face an unlimited fine or even imprisonment.

In addition any vehicles used in connection with the fly-tipping of waste can be seized and destroyed.

Fly-tipping information:

  • People are asked not to touch any fly-tipped waste or approach anyone they see fly-tipping.
