East Riding of Yorkshire Council is to host a free event dedicated to ending men’s violence against women and girls.

The event, held on Wednesday 10 December at Bridlington Spa, is part of the White Ribbon Campaign, a global campaign that calls to all, including men, to speak out and take action in preventing violence against women and girls.

The ‘East Riding Speaks Up’ event will bring together individuals, organisations, and services from across the region to raise awareness, share lived experiences and inspire action.

The day will include keynote speeches from Lisa Squire, mother of Libby Squire and founder of Libby’s Legacy and the It Does Matter campaign, as well as from Luke Medcalf from White Ribbon UK and Dave Brown from Community Vision.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council chairman Councillor Liam Dealtry will also speak at the event, and there will be sessions on engaging with men and boys, and young people.

There will be a panel session featuring speakers and local leaders, including East Riding of Yorkshire’s White Ribbon member champion, Councillor Zahra Saribal, and an afternoon roundtable discussion to explore practical steps forward.

Throughout the day there will be a marketplace of stalls and networking opportunities. Attendees will be encouraged to sign a community pledge for action, to commit to change through training, campaigning and collaboration.

Attendees will have access to a wellbeing room throughout the day, supported by Hull and East Yorkshire MIND, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for all.

Councillor Lyn Healing, East Riding of Yorkshire Council cabinet member for communities and public protection said “This is a fantastic event to bring the community together for this vital cause. I encourage residents to find out more and attend the event, - so that together we can create a world where women and girls are safe, equal, and respected."

The event is all open to all interested residents, schools, community groups, and business groups. More information and to register can be found at eryc.link/white-ribbon-event
