Thursday, 20 August 2026

Pupils across East Riding have today, Thursday 20 August, received their GCSE results.

Over 3,300 pupils from 18 secondary schools in the East Riding have collected their results.

Councillor Victoria Aitken, Cabinet Member for Children, Families, and Education, said: "Congratulations to all of our pupils getting their GCSE results.

"I hope every student achieves the grades they worked hard for, and they can now look forward with confidence to the next stage of their journey, whether that is further education, training, or their chosen career.

"A big thank you to the dedicated and hardworking teachers, support staff and education professionals for the support they give in helping every young person achieve their very best."

Kate Parker-Randall, Headteacher at Bridlington School said: “We are very proud of the achievements of all our students. Their results demonstrate a passion for and commitment to learning, qualities which will take them far in their next steps. We wish all our students continued success as they embark on the next stage of their learning journeys.”

Mrs Stamford, Head of School at Headlands School in Bridlington said: “Today is a very special and emotional day for our students, and we could not be prouder of them. Their GCSE results are a reflection not only of their hard work, but of the resilience, courage and determination they have shown throughout their journey with us here at Headlands School. We are incredibly proud of every young person. Whatever their results, they should take a moment to recognise how far they have come. They have grown into remarkable young people, and we are excited to see where their next chapter takes them.”

Mr Harrison, Headteacher at The Market Weighton School said: “We’ve had some fantastic results, but it is not all about the top grades - many of our students surpassed their targets to achieve great results that will allow them to progress to the next stage of their education.

“Many of our students have benefited from additional support as part of our Enhanced Resource Provision or with Education Health Care Plans. As a school where inclusion is front and centre of all we do, we have students for whom achieving a grade 1 is just as challenging as others achieving a grade 9.

“All our students have individual successes and will progress to a wide range of Sixth Form Colleges, FE Colleges and apprentice providers. I would like to thank all our staff for their hard work in supporting these students over the past 5 years and wish them all the very best for the future.’

Mr David Perry, Headteacher of Longcroft School and Sixth Form, says, “We are so proud of all our pupils who today have seen their hard work and determination pay off with some brilliant exam results. Their achievements in all areas of school are a great credit to a very special group of young people and the wonderful support they have received from our dedicated staff and families.

"As they now embark on a wide range of exciting next steps, we wish them all every success. It has been another great year for the school which is now officially the most well attended secondary school in England under the government’s recently published DfE similar schools report. This wider commitment shown by our children continues to make a real difference in all that they achieve."

Steve Ostler, Headteacher at Hornsea School said: "Following our incredible A-level results last week, which placed our Sixth Form among the top 10% nationally, our Year 11 students have continued that success with another excellent set of results today.

"Almost one in five students achieved a grade 7 or above in either English or Maths, while more than 70% of all grades awarded were at grade 4 or above. Our EBacc outcomes also remain among the strongest in the local authority.

"As a fully inclusive school, we are particularly pleased to see further evidence of the progress being made across the whole cohort, including a continued narrowing of the attainment gap for our disadvantaged students. We are delighted that so many of this year’s Year 11 cohort will be continuing their studies with us in the Sixth Form, and we look forward to seeing what they achieve next."

Mark Crofts, Headteacher at Withernsea High School said: “It was wonderful to meet with students and their families and to share their pleasure in some hard-earned exam successes. No one underestimates the challenges that our young people face, and the fact that so many of our Year 11 students have risen to these challenges is to be celebrated.

“Parents, families and staff were so obviously proud, and our students, whilst many were simply relieved that the wait was over, spoke with excitement about their next ambitious steps forward. As the door closes on their secondary education, so many more doors open. I wish them all a smooth transition in September and the greatest success as they move onwards.”
