Children's memorial at Lelley Fields Crematorium

Tuesday, 25 June 2024

A children’s memorial service will be held at Lelley Fields Crematorium, off Sproatley Road, Preston, Holderness.

The event, on Wednesday 3 July, is aimed at anyone who has suffered from the loss of a child of any age up to 18, be that parents, family members or friends.

The one-hour service, held in the crematorium’s Oak Hall, is a chance for people to remember and pay their respects to the young people who mattered to them.

The service starts at 6.30pm, with doors opening at 6pm. It is open to anyone, no matter how long ago their loss happened, or where the original service took place.

Christine Walker-Kelley, manager of Lelley Fields, said: “The passing of a young person brings immense heartache to many, and we're offering this service for anyone to pay their respects and celebrate the memories of their loved ones.

"We really hope this memorial will offer some comfort to those who come along.”

As part of the memorial, people can have their loved one's names and/or photos displayed on video screens as part of a visual tribute during the services.

The service can also be streamed so people who can't attend in person can still view the service.

Light refreshments will be served after the service.

While reservations are not required, they will help Lelley Fields accommodate all attendees and provide sufficient refreshments.

Email lelleyfields@eastriding.gov.uk or call 01482 392910 if you would like to attend, or for more information.

Lelley Fields opened in February 2023 as the first crematorium to be operated by East Riding of Yorkshire Council and the first new crematorium built in the East Riding since 1998.
