East Riding learning disability day service raises £500 for Children in Need

Wednesday, 26 November 2025

Millers Day Services recently held their annual Children in Need event, raising an impressive sum of £500 for the charity.

Based in Beverley, Millers Day Services specialise in learning disabilities and complex care support. The service provides a variety of facilities and scheduled activities, supporting service users within a safe and empowering environment. Millers also provide support to older people and people living with dementia.

The event, which took place on Tuesday, 18 November, was the ninth Children in Need event held by the day service. The day involved challengers set by service users for themselves and staff to complete on stage.

Some of the challenges and games included a blindfolded navigational contest, drumming, foreign language knowledge, pickleball, fitness and karaoke with staff performing their fancy dress rendition of ‘Islands in the Stream’.

Service users from Haltemprice day services also attended as well as some individuals from their supported living accommodation, travelling from various places across the East Riding to enjoy the event and raise money for the cause.

In the weeks running up to the event, service users were involved with decorating the centre in a Pudsey theme, crafting items and sharing their ideas for the event.

Councillor Jonathan Owen, cabinet member for adult social care and health said at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “It’s fantastic to see Millers Day Services bringing people together for such a worthy cause. Raising £500 for Children in Need is a brilliant achievement and a testament to the creativity and commitment of both staff and service users.

‘’Events like this not only support vital charities but also showcase the inclusive, empowering environment that Millers provides for people with learning disabilities and complex care needs. Well done to everyone involved.”

Kyle, a service user at Millers Day Services, said: ‘’The Children in Need event was very enjoyable, I loved the challenges and raising £500 for charity was brilliant.’’

Paul Robinson, a senior day service officer who was involved with planning and coordinating the event, added: ‘’It was an amazing day and wonderful to see all of our individuals involved in the fundraising event who came along in fancy dress and their Pudsey bear t-shirts.

‘’We were proud to raise £500 for Children in Need, a charity we have raised thousands for over the years.

‘’I would just like to thank the staff, our incredible individuals and everyone involved in the event who either supported, donated, or bought a raffle ticket and cakes. You’re all special people with wonderful, big hearts.’’
