Exhibition and workshop coming to Lelley Fields Crematorium

Thursday, 9 April 2026

People are being invited to attend a photography exhibition and journalling workshop at Lelley Fields Crematorium in Preston, this month.

The inspiring one-day event, titled Projecting Grief, will be held at the venue in Sproatley Road on Saturday 25 April, between 11am and 4pm.

The exhibition will share a selection of moving photographs and stories about grief, creativity and hope, from people who have found comfort, distraction or connection through creative expression after losing someone.

There is also a drop‑in journalling workshop which those attending can take part in, if they wish, designed to help people express their own thoughts and experiences.

The project is run by photographer Jo Ritchie and writer Laura McDonagh, who together deliver exhibitions, an online gallery, creative workshops, and other grief‑related community events across the UK.

Members of the Lelley Fields team will also be available throughout the day to chat about the services on offer.

Councillor Paul West, East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s cabinet member for environment and transport, said: “This promises to be a particularly moving event, showing how people have coped with grief in their own ways, in the hope it inspires others.

“Any residents from across the area are welcome to attend, irrespective of whether they have used Lelley Fields before.”

The exhibition and workshop is open to everyone and free, although optional donations can be made.

Lelley Fields opened in February 2023 as the first crematorium to be operated by East Riding of Yorkshire Council and was the first new crematorium to be built in the East Riding since 1998.

To find out more about the event, people can call into Lelley Fields during opening hours, call 01482 392910, or email lelleyfields@eastriding.gov.uk
