Frights and delights at Sewerby Hall, Gardens and Zoo this October

Join Sewerby Hall, Gardens and Zoo this Halloween for a spine-tingling selection of family friendly activities taking place throughout the school holidays.

From Saturday, 25 October to Sunday, 2 November 2025, visitors can enjoy spooky magic shows, autumnal crafting, face painting, and interactive storytelling adventures with Rusticus Theatre, including ghost hunting, wizarding quests and magical trick-or-treat trails.

Rusticus bring the outdoors to life with costume themed, interactive story telling. Through engaging sessions, Rusticus create an exhilarating environment for children to learn and explore their imaginations, making for an unforgettable day out for the whole family.

Sewerby’s walled gardens will be transformed with eerie decorations, while the zoo offers hands-on wildlife fun, making scary fat balls for the animals. With live entertainment, seasonal crafts, and immersive outdoor experiences, this event will make for a memorable half-term.

The Halloween programme of events includes:

  • Halloween Spooky Gardens:

Visitors can explore the walled gardens to discover unearthly characters.

Saturday, 25 October - Sunday, 2 November. This will be available between 10am – 3.30pm.

Last admission to the walled gardens is at 3pm.

  • Rusticus Wizarding Adventure:

Join wizarding detectives as they embark on a quest to uncover the truth behind a series of strange, ghostly occurrences that have been plaguing the area.

Saturday, 25 October. Performances take place 11am, 12.30pm and 2pm and last approx. 45 minutes.

  • Love Exploring: Dinosaur Safari:

This is an augmented reality quiz trail about dinosaurs. Use the map to find the dinosaurs on the estate and then test your Dino knowledge in the quiz.

Saturday, 25 October – Sunday, 2 November. This will be available between 10am – 3pm.

  • Love Exploring: Halloween Dance Trail:

Discover more about Halloween with our spooky dancers and their Halloween Quiz. Each dancer has a question about Halloween for visitors to answer.

Saturday 25, October – Sunday, 2 November. This will be available between 10am – 3pm.

  • Wildcats: Pebble and Pinecone Critters:

Visitors can create their own Halloween monster, a cute toy to play with or a creature from their imagination.

Sunday, 26 October. This event takes place 11am to 3pm.

  • Rusticus Adventure: Grim Tales:

Join monster hunters, the Brothers Grimm and enter the world of the Witcher as visitors unearth the monsters lurking in forbidden corners of Sewerby Hall and Gardens.

Monday, 27 October. Performances will take place at 11am, 12.30pm and 2pm and last approx. 45 minutes.

  • Rusticus Adventure: Trick or Treat:

Step into a world where enchantment and mischief collide in this interactive outdoor adventure. Featuring a cast of famous tricksters and their clever antics, audiences will need to prepare for a magical surprise round every corner.

Tuesday, 28 October. Performances will take place at 11am, 12.30pm and 2pm.

  • Halloween - Spooky Magic Shows and Face Painting:

Come and see Mr Bubbles’ new spooky magic show. Full of giggles, screams and plenty of trick or treats.

Wednesday, 29 October and Saturday, 1 November. Shows times in the Orangery: 11am, 12.30pm and 2pm.

Face painting by professional face painter (£3 additional charge) will be at the front of the Orangery from 11am - 4pm.

  • Zoo Activity: Orange Fat Balls:

Come along and make a fat ball covered with seeds of your choice to take home and feed to the birds in your garden and support the natural wildlife.

Wednesday, 29 October. Session times are 11.30am - 12noon. No need to book, just turn up.

  • Rusticus Ghost-Hunting Adventure:

Help the hapless professor make sense of his latest ghost-detecting invention and have fun making mischief in the woods with a whole array of ghostly characters.

Thursday, 30 October. Performances will take place at 11am, 12.30pm and 2pm and last approx. 45 minutes.

  • Wildcats: Haunted House:

Join Wildcats this Halloween to create your very own haunted houses from an array of natural and reclaimed materials.

Friday, 31 October. This event takes place 11am – 3pm.

Councillor Nick Coultish, cabinet member for culture, leisure and tourism at East Riding of Yorkshire Council said: ‘’This Halloween, Sewerby Hall and Gardens promises spooky, seasonal fun for all the family.

‘’From eery outdoor adventures to crafting activities and engaging live performances, there are lots of events on offer for people to make the most of!’’

Sewerby House will be open weekends and during the October half term 11.30am - 3.30pm with last admission at 3pm.

The zoo is open daily 10am - 3.30pm with last admission at 3pm.

The walled gardens are open daily 9.30am - 3.30pm with last admission at 3pm.

Standard admission charges apply during this period, and it is cheaper to book online.

Many of the events takes place outdoor so please dress for the weather. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
