Know Your Numbers! Get your blood pressure checked

Monday, 8 September 2025

Every year UK charity Blood Pressure UK promotes Know Your Numbers! week – this year’s campaign runs from Monday, 8 September to Sunday, 14 September 2025.

Getting a blood pressure check is the first step to preventing heart attacks and strokes.

Around a third of people in the UK have high blood pressure, but most don’t know it. High blood pressure doesn’t have any ‘symptoms’ so the only way to find out is to have a blood pressure check.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council is supporting the blood pressure testing and awareness event and as part of the 2025 theme ‘Looking for the Missing Millions’, a number of council services are encouraging residents to take up the measurement challenge.

Right now, five million UK adults aged between 18-64 may have undiagnosed high blood pressure – increasing their risk of heart attack, stroke, and kidney disease.

Did you know you can loan blood pressure monitors from East Riding libraries or our mobile libraries?

Have you ever felt worried about going to your local GP or pharmacy for a blood pressure check? Now, you can monitor your blood pressure from the comfort of your own home by borrowing a blood pressure monitor for up to two weeks, completely for free!

By knowing your numbers, you can get support through the council's free health programmes such as East Riding Leisure Healthier, or Healthier Futures in partnership with Xyla to bring blood pressure under control and prevent these diseases.

East Riding residents can also take advantage of free Boditrax appointments through participating East Riding Leisure centres or East Riding Libraries if they are a member, to assess overall health and wellbeing. Pop in, call or email to make your appointment. The appointment provides 15 health metrics in just 30 seconds using a body composition scanner, including blood pressure.
