Let's talk: Sexual Health Week

Thursday, 18 September 2025

This year’s Sexual Health Week runs until Sunday, 21 September on the theme of ‘Chronically Online’, looking at how an increasingly digital world is influencing attitudes and behaviours around sex and relationships.

The key themes sexual health and wellbeing charity Brook is promoting as part of this year’s campaign are:

  • Looking at how relationships and sex education (RSE) can empower young people to think critically about the content they consume
  • Exploring how integrating digital and face-to-face sexual health services can help address health inequalities
  • How we can combat stigma and misinformation online.

What sexual health support is there locally in East Riding?

Conifer provides the sexual and reproductive health service for East Riding and Hull, aiming to provide a friendly, professional, non-judgmental and confidential service for residents of all ages – through face-to-face and online services.

Residents can fill in a online assessment for an appointment or call Conifer on (01482) 247111.

Alternatively, you can speak to a sexual health nurse on a Monday or Thursday between 6pm to 8pm, by heading to the Sexual Health Virtual Clinic.

What support is there specifically for young people and parents?

Across our region, health partner City Health Care Partnership CIC (CHCP) work alongside the East Riding school nursing team and Integrated Specialist Public Health Nursing Service (ISPHNS) through Conifer to raise awareness about how young people can access free contraception, as well as testing and treatment for all.

There are drop-in school nurse sessions across lunchtimes for students in most East Riding secondary schools, which include sexual health advice.

Conifer also offers a text service for young people aged 13 to 19 in need of sexual health support or information, including the pill.

Just text "Reachout" to 61825 and the team will call back within three working days, or you can call the outreach team: (01482) 336397.

The school nursing team can also provide advice to parents, call: (01482) 689689 or email: hnf-tr.isphnspoc@nhs.net

What other services do Conifer offer?

Check out Conifer’s website to see where their mobile clinic is heading this month, plus information about accessing regular local clinics, virtual clinics, STI testing, unplanned pregnancy, LGBTQ+ support and much more.

For anyone going through the menopause who needs further specialist support, your GP can refer you to Conifer's specialist service, read more on the menopause section.
