Let’s talk... National Grief Awareness Week

Wednesday, 3 December 2025

In recognition of National Grief Awareness Week which runs until Monday, 8 December, East Riding of Yorkshire Council is shining a light on local services and community groups supporting residents across the East Riding.

Remember, there is no right or wrong way to feel after a bereavement or loss. Please reach out if you or a loved one need help navigating grief, especially at this time of year.

As well as the below signposting, there are also plenty of helpful resources on the Good Grief Trust website: www.thegoodgrieftrust.org, including ways to support this year’s theme ‘growing with grief’.

Legacy memorial garden update

Earlier this year the council outlined plans for permanent memorials in Hull and East Riding to remember those affected by an incident at a funeral home in Hull. The 'Butterfly Grove' memorial garden build at Lelley Fields Crematorium is now complete and will provide a special place to remember loved ones as it establishes over the coming months.

Organising a funeral?

If you or someone you are supporting needs help with paying for a funeral and information on how to apply for financial support through the Government’s Funeral Expenses Payment or Bereavement Support Payment, you can find out everything you need to know on the council's help with funeral expenses webpage.

This information will also feature in the council's forthcoming Your East Riding magazine winter issue, out next week.
