New Georgia O’Keeffe exhibition announced for Beverley Art Gallery

Tuesday, 17 March 2026

An exciting new exhibition, ‘Memories of Drawings’ by pioneering American artist Georgia O’Keeffe, will be coming to Beverley Art Gallery this month.

This exhibition is a Hayward Gallery Touring exhibition from Southbank Centre, London.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council invite the public to explore 21 photogravure prints which trace the artist’s development as a leading Modernist.

Spanning from 1915 to 1963, the prints show how drawing shaped O’Keeffe’s thinking, from early charcoal abstractions to studies of flowers, landscapes and organic forms.

Created with her friend and agent Doris Bry, this collection of photogravures offers a rare insight into the ideas and motifs that shaped one of the 20th century’s most influential artists.

Alongside the exhibition, the Gallery will present a documentary film Georgia O’Keeffe: The Brightness of Light (2024). Directed by Academy Award and Emmy Award winning independent filmmaker Paul Wagner, it features Claire Danes as the voice of Georgia O’Keeffe, with narration by Hugh Dancy.

This marks the first time the film will be shown as part of an exhibition, offering a fresh, intimate perspective on O'Keeffe's life and creative journey.

‘Memories of Drawings’ is a free exhibition and will feature inside Beverley Art Gallery from Saturday, 28 March to Saturday, 23 May.

Councillor Nick Coultish, cabinet member for culture, leisure and tourism at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: ‘“This wonderful exhibition celebrates almost half a century of work by the celebrated artist Georgia O’Keeffe.

‘’We are excited to see what the public think of this free exhibition and feel privileged to host the first-ever screening of documentary The Brightness of Light as part of an exhibition dedicated to her work.”

Hannah Willetts, curator at Beverley Art Gallery, said: “Georgia O’Keeffe is one of the most important modern artists of the 20th century.

‘’This month marks 40 years since her death, and this is a chance to celebrate her enduring impact and share her inspiring work with visitors to Beverley Art Gallery.”

Beverley Art Gallery is located within the Champney Treasure House, Beverley.
