Aspiring homeowners in the East Riding are being encouraged to take advantage of an affordable opportunity to get on the property ladder, through the government-backed Shared Ownership scheme.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council has launched two newly built two-bedroom homes for sale at the Sycamores Development off South Ella Way, Kirk Ella.

The properties are available through Shared Ownership, a scheme designed to help people who may not otherwise be able to buy a home outright. Buyers can purchase an initial share of between 10% and 75% of the property's value and pay a reduced rent on the remaining share. Over time, homeowners have the option to purchase additional shares, gradually increasing their ownership until they own the property outright. Mortgages are available to help eligible households access the funding required to purchase the initial and future shares.

Located on the former Wolfreton School site, the homes are close to local amenities in Kirk Ella, Willerby and Anlaby, offering convenient connections to both Hull and Beverley, and the surrounding countryside.

Prices start from £56,250 for a 25% share, with a monthly rent and service charge of £413.38 on the remaining share.

For many first-time buyers, Shared Ownership can provide a realistic and affordable alternative to traditional home ownership. As purchasers only need to fund a share of the property initially, deposits and mortgage requirements are lower, helping more households take their first step

The Kirk Ella homes form part of East Riding of Yorkshire Council's wider commitment to increasing affordable home ownership opportunities across the county. Further Shared Ownership homes are being developed in locations including Beverley, Driffield, Market Weighton, Wetwang, Withernsea and Goole.

Councillor Michael Lee, East Riding of Yorkshire Council Cabinet Member for Housing and Infrastructure said; “This is a great opportunity for first time buyers in the East Riding, and we encourage interested residents to find out more and apply if they are eligible.”
