The East Riding Festival of Words SpringFest starts this weekend

Tuesday, 11 March 2025

East Riding’s Festival of Words SpringFest starts this weekend, with tickets still available for many of the events.

Organised by East Riding Libraries, the festival is dedicated to celebrating local and northern voices and will give regional authors a platform as well as vocational support to develop their skillset.

SpringFest will focus on promoting local talent from across the region, inviting authors to take part in events like the Local Author Marketplace. Through an author call out orchestrated by the library service, writers who haven't had the opportunity to be platformed by the festival have been given the chance to promote their work and network with other authors. This event will be the first of its kind for SpringFest. Other events include author talks and workshops for everyone to enjoy.

Kicking off the author talks will be ‘Broken Biscuits and Other Male Failures’ with Adam Farrier at Beverley Library. Taking place at 5pm on Saturday, 15 March, lecturer and award-winning author Adam will be talking about his recently publish book, Broken Biscuits and Other Male Failures.

On Monday, 17 March from 12.30pm, communications expert Anna Caig will be talking all things marketing for writers at a special online event. The session is for writers at all stages of their careers and are invited to this 90-minute Zoom webinar. All attendees will receive a link prior to the event.

In Wilberfoss, Goole and North Bridlington, Black Liver presents the theatre show Devilled Eggs. Taking place on 17, 18 and 19 March, embark on a fresh, cheeky, and devilishly spicy journey at the Dakota Guest House with your hosts Roman and Prudence. Mostly suitable for ages 12+, but all welcome.

Thursday, 20 March sees ‘The Woman With All The Answers’. Linda Green visit South Cave Library. Linda, the bestselling author, is here to talk to you about her heart-warming book, that has been selected to be part of the BBC Radio 2 Book Club and the Richard and Judy Book Club. This session starts at 7pm.

Join the crime novelist Wes Markin, famous for his series ‘Boldwood’, in talks with Hull writer and musician Chris Speck at Driffield Library on Friday, 21 March. Come along and listen to them talk all things Yorkshire Murders.

Saturday sees the wrapping up of the festival with three events at North Bridlington Library, starting at 10am with a Writing for Wellbeing Workshop, followed by a craft workshop with Eleanor Tomlinson Art, at 11.30am.

The last event of SpringFest is a talk with author Julia Chapman. International bestseller, Julia, is here to talk to you about her cozy, crime series ‘The Dales Detective’. Taking place at North Bridlington Library on Saturday, 22 March at 2pm.

Councillor Nick Coultish, East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s cabinet member for culture, leisure and tourism, said: “SpringFest promises to be a successful event with an exciting line-up for everyone to get involved in and I am very happy to see it return this year across the East Riding.

‘’I hope residents will come along and enjoy this varied and fascinating programme.”

Tickets are on sale now and range from £5 - £7. Unless otherwise specified, all events require pre-booking. For more information, and to purchase your tickets, please visit: www.eastridinglibraries.co.uk/festival-of-words/
