Community groups and organisations in the East Wolds and Coastal Ward are being invited to apply for grants from the Lissett Wind Farm Community Fund.

Applications to the fund, which is now in its eleventh year, can be made by organisations such as community groups, parish councils, schools and faith-based groups for projects which are of public benefit, including charitable, educational and not-for-profit activities.

The fund receives an annual donation of over £84,000 from the wind farm's operating company, Ventient.

An independent decision-making panel comprising of local representatives from parishes within the area - which is facilitated by East Riding of Yorkshire Council - assesses applications and award grants.

Last year, despite the current pandemic, the fund was able to support a wide range of projects, from local community buildings to sports clubs and youth groups. And in the past 11 years the panel has helped many people make improvements in the 21 parishes which make up the East Wolds and Coastal Ward.

Councillor Jane Evison, chair of the Lissett Wind Farm Community Fund, said: "Helping people achieve improvements within their parishes, or the wider area of our ward with the wind farm money, is a really enjoyable process.

"We have helped many local village halls, sports groups and play areas, giving a new lease of life and the opportunity to improve. For example, we have helped the local transport group H.A.R.T., we have made money available for introducing home security - usually for the more vulnerable within our communities - and we have also worked with the Neighbourhood Police Team to provide cameras for an Automatic Number Plate Recognition system which now operates in the area.

"The panel is now looking forward to receiving this year's applications and distributing funds."

The closing date for applications to the main fund is Sunday, 25 April 2021.

There is also a year-round, easy-to-apply-for small grants option for specific one-off projects, particularly relevant during the current pandemic.
