New walking netball sessions are taking place on Wednesday, 23 June at the newly refurbished Hornsea Hub thanks to a partnership between East Riding of Yorkshire Council's Health and Wellbeing Group and England Netball Humber.
The weekly sessions run from 11.30am-12.30pm and are aimed at ladies who are 50+ and used to play netball or would like to try fun, organised walking netball activities and games.
Each session accommodates various fitness levels, providing low- to mid-intensity matches ideal for those who haven't played for a long time or would just like to get fitter and meet new friends.
The new sessions cost just £2.60, with no need to book on the first week (please turn up 15 minutes early to register).
Walking netball sessions at East Riding Leisure Haltemprice and Beverley have previously restarted since restrictions allowed on 17 May.
Sarah Johnson, sport and active communities officer at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: "In addition to the sessions, the social side is very important too. As well as the netball teams, some ladies from sessions at other East Riding Leisure centres prior to the pandemic had set up other social groups, such as a darts team, and the groups regularly organised meals out and trips away.
"Also prior to COVID-19 restrictions, 13 ladies from previous sessions went to see the England netball team play in Nottingham last year. So, it is hoped, once restrictions are fully lifted, additional activities and more events will be planned.
"No matter what skill or fitness level you are, we would strongly recommend you give walking netball a try!"
