Mon, 15 Oct 2018

Two electric vehicle (EV) charging points have been officially switched on in Driffield.

Conveniently located in the Cross Hill Car Park in the town centre, these charging points are free to use and parking is free whilst charging.

The points were installed by East Riding of Yorkshire Council at a cost of £7,000 and are funded by through the local transport plan with grant funding from the Department for Transport.

EV points form part of the authority’s efforts to promote cleaner transport and reduce carbon emissions.

Councillor Symon Fraser, cabinet portfolio holder for strategic asset management, housing and environment, said: “Over the next few years, we hope to create a basic network of charging points to provide confidence for users of EVs and to encourage take up of non-polluting vehicles. We would also encourage businesses and developers to install EV chargers as the popularity of these vehicles continues to grow.”

EV charging facilities are also available in public car parks in Hessle and Bridlington, with further additional sites planned around the East Riding over the next three years.
