East Riding of Yorkshire Council has won another prestigious national award at the Association for Public Service Excellence (APSE) Service Awards 2018.
Atthe awards ceremony, held in Edinburgh, the council was presented with the top honours for Best Service Team of the Year in Sports, Leisure and Cultural Services.
Remarkably, this is the fifth time East Riding Leisure has won the Best Service Team of the Year in this category, having previously taken the trophy in 2009, 2011, 2013 and 2015.
The annual awards recognise excellence in front line services delivered by more than 300 local authorities to local people across England, Scotland and Wales.
Over the past year, East Riding Leisure has generated national and international recognition for its innovative processes. The team has continually gone beyond what their customers expect, but at the same time substantially reduced the cost of the service whilst increasing income, customers, patients and addressing social needs.
Councillor Richard Burton, portfolio holder for leisure, tourism and culture, said : “This magnificent achievement is for the leisure services staff who work at all our facilities across the East Riding. Being awarded such a prestigious national award is absolutely fantastic news and follows hot on the heels of winning numerous other awards in recent times.
“This success cannot be achieved without the wonderful dedication, passion and enthusiasm from the whole staff team, including all the partners we work with, and many staff across the council.
John Skidmore, director of adults, health and customer services, added : “We continue to build an even stronger partnership with public health services, and everyone involved should be thoroughly proud of their contribution towards achieving this remarkable success.”
