Café Chats continue at Sewerby Hall and Gardens on Monday, 10 December, when the subject will be ‘Christmas Past’.
Based in the Clock Tower Cafe, every second Monday of the month until March, Café Chats are an opportunity to join a member of the museum team for an informal and interactive chat based around one or more items from the Museum collection.
Education officer Robert Chester said : “Ever wondered who invented the Christmas card or how the Victorians decorated their Christmas Trees? Why not take the opportunity to find out a little bit more about our Christmas traditions at this festive themed Cafe Chat?
“Join the museum team to look at some of the ways that the Victorians developed Christmas into the festival we know today. The chat will also cover that famous Christmas truce in 1914 and what it was like to spend Christmas in the trenches in the First World War."
Details, times and dates of the chats can be found on the Sewerby Hall and Gardens website, or by ringing Sewerby Hall on 01262673769. All the chats will last between 20 minutes and an hour.
Robert Chester added : “Café Chats are, quite literally, an opportunity for members of the public to meet the people behind the Museum, get to grips with historical objects from the collection and learn a little more about them and their significance.”
Admission to the café area and to the Café Chat event will be free.
